The Forgotten Color Wheel

Choosing a Color Scheme

Zoom in

I am a big fan of color — purple being my favorite! However, as a designer, you must know when it's appropriate for the client and most importantly — when it's not. If a Banking client comes to you in search of a new new logo, you don't give them hot pink — it's common sense, right? The color choices that I make for clients are usually based a combination of experience, color theory, and their industry/market. The right color scheme can say that a company is hip, sophisticated, retro, conservative, gritty, etc.

Do you have a great product but can't show it off to enough customers?

Micro-Sites Could Be Your Best Option

Our client had an interesting problem. They had a great product but it was to big and bulky and they didn't have 30 sales people (or the budget) to travel around the world and show it off.

Advice on picking your next marketing partner

Pick an Agency that Fits

Zoom in

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a big fish in a small pond? Instead of being a small account to a big agency why not become a big one that gets all the attention in a small agency. The client who gets called back. The client who gets layouts within days (sometimes hours) instead of weeks.

The Browser Debate

All Browsers Are Not Created Equal

Zoom in

I decided to do a little research and open my mind up to the possibility that they might be another option out there for me. I took the top 5 browsers and read through all of their features and came up with a short list of highlights for each one. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of features some of the newer browsers have, such as Safari 4 and IE 8. As a Mac user I cannot use IE 8 but I still was amazed by the number of features it has... it's no wonder it still is the most popular browser in the world...

Our company never throws anything away, and I’m proud to say that we have never lost any files to corruption or poor housekeeping. Because of this, Visual Ventures has a copy of every file it’s ever created. (Two if you count the off-site backup.) As I quickly approach my 8 year mark at the company, I had the realization that I personally have created an astonishing amount of digital art.

Better branding

Using Corporate Colors

The other day, my co-worker and I were looking at the menu on the McDonalds website. The site was completely not what I was expecting... we both commenting on the over-dominating black background. I mean, when has McDonald's ever used black in anything? I can't say I'm a patron of Mickey D's... just a rare occasion sort of place for me. However, I have to say that the website just threw me off — where was the red and the golden arches I grew up with? Had they changed?...
